Working all day with writers and editors, I’ve always found it fascinating how many of them just can’t spell - that love of language and writing doesn’t necessarily go hand-in-hand with being able to differentiate between “your” and “you’re.” (Lest I sound like a pompous jerk, I know I have my slipups, too. That’s why www.m-w.com is my friend.) Spotting a glaring mistake in a headline or story makes me cringe, but hey, we work on the web and such mistakes can be quickly fixed (hmm, does that mean we’re going to become even more lackadaisical about it?). I am, however, rather captivated by the idea of an army of spelling and punctuation vigilantes bringing order, in their small way, to these troubled economic times.
